Italy has some spa towns second to none, resorts that will leave you relaxed, invigorated and longing to return. Nowhere else on earth can boast of locations quite like these. Where else can you find superb thermo spas in medieval towns with Venice literally on your doorstep and the dolomite mountains providing a stunning backdrop?
Many areas of Italy offer great thermo-spas of various types and in this and future articles we will explore them all. It is near Venice that we begin, this region is home for me and therefore it is fitting that we begin our discovery of the best spas in Italy here.
THERMO SPA
First and best known of the spas in this region, the Veneto, is the famous resort of Abano Terme, considered by many to be the best spa town in the entire Veneto, it is indeed superb:
Abano Terme
The hot springs are world famous, according to the tourist information office, at 87°c, these are the hottest natural springs in the world and there are more than 160 thermo spa baths on offer in the dozens of hotels around town.
Recoaro Terme
A short drive from our house, Recoaro Terme is a place I know well.
Recoaro can't compare to Abano in terms of the range of spa facilities on offer but it is a peaceful town in an extremely beautiful setting with a lovely ski resort nearby.
Recoaro is one of the oldest spa towns in Italy and has 9 natural springs - five of which are to be found in the Fonti Centrali complex which is the main one in the town.
The five natural springs found in the Fonti Centrali vary considerably in terms of their benefits. Some of these springs are rich in magnesium while others are rich in iron and other beneficial minerals.
